Re-figure county spending, McCall declares

Only one year having left Oconee government, Wayne McCall still sounds much like the councilman he was for 12 years.  Although he insists he’s through with politics, he remains outspoken on county spending priorities.  McCall founded off Friday to 101.7/WGOG NEWS after he had a 22-minute phone conversation with Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.  The former District Two councilman is convinced that county spending should be re-figured to hire more deputy sheriffs.  McCall says he did not come away from his talk with Crenshaw with a number of additional deputies that the sheriff would like in 2022-23.  But he believes that the current number of more than 100 officers is not enough in a county whose population approaches 80 thousand and whose crime rate has worsened due to illegal drug activity.  The former councilman believes Oconee County spends too much on things other than which he believes is the top priority–fire and public safety.
