Quiet in the Atlantic

Whether you speak to Walhalla’s Official Weather Observer or check in with the severe weather liaison at South Carolina Climate Office, what you hear is basically the same — no rain and no decent chance for much-needed rain.  The rain brought by Hurricane Ian last month mostly side-stepped the Upstate, according to Frank Strait at the state Climate Office.  The Atlantic hurricane season is past its prime now, but Strait urges do not let your guard down yet.  Visit hurricane.sc for hurricane preparedness tips.  The South Carolina Emergency Management Division has a new readiness site, earthquake.sc.  Walhalla Oktoberfest will enjoy good fall weather.  Strait says, “Our next chance for rain doesn’t come until Wednesday; however, we’ll likely see only spotty showers when this front crosses South Carolina.  It will cool off behind that front, but just to more seasonable October temperatures.  We won’t be taking any more polar plunges over the next week.  Another cold front will likely affect us next weekend with a better still-not-great opportunity for rain.”
