Public hearings to be held on Ordinance 2024-18

Conservation-minded Oconeeans take encouragement in a new county planning commission recommendation that could have the effect of tamping down what they fear is out-of-control growth that threatens the county’s way of life.  That’s why Gary Owens, along with Lynne and Eddie Martin, and others last night touted the adoption of Ordinance 2024-18 – an amendment to the county code addressing minimum lot size and maximum lot density.  However, because the proposed amendment is just coming to light, the council decided last night to call a number of hearings to allow public comment and questions.  To at least one councilman, District One’s John Elliott, the pleas to conserve, especially when it comes to preserving local farming are getting through.  Elliott last night expressed worry that Chinese interests are moving to buy enough U-S properties that’ll jeopardize U-S ability to feed itself.
