Potential boil advisory ahead for Westminster

Westminster officials say they may have to resort to a new boil advisory, as early as Monday, as crews undertake repairs to a water line leak on highway 76.  Kevin Harbin, utilities director, told the mayor and council that Monday is specifically targeted as the day to fix a 14” line because, as President’s Day, there will be no public school classes in the area.  He explains one of the obstacles crews are facing is that, because the cast iron line is large, replacement valve parts are difficult to acquire.  Kevin Bronson, city administrator, says customers are going to receive calls alerting them to the work, and city does not rule out the possibility that a boil advisory will be required.  That advisory, Bronson explained, does not necessarily mean tap water will be unsafe to drink.  Instead it is a caution advisory that, to be safe, water should be boiled vigorously for at least one full minute before using for drinking, cooking, or ice-making purposes.
