Politics Oconee-style at two venues

“Gotta get people to vote” and “It’s going to be crucial.”  Those were comments you heard this afternoon before the start of an Oconee County Democratic event in Seneca.  And the chit chat was about the importance for Democratic voters to turn out in droves February 3 for what’s called the first in the nation Democratic presidential primary.  And from two prominent Democrats, Jaime Harrison of the National Democratic Committee and Christale Spain of the state party, they were reminded of the 2020 primary season when Joe Biden’s candidacy was considered dead, until South Carolina Democrats gave him a decisive win that helped propel him to the nomination and later the White House.  A larger crowd than anticipated this afternoon filled the meeting room of the Blue Ridge Community Center.  Oconee’s Republicans were in action last night, in a meeting described to 101.7/WGOG NEWS as an “aggravating meeting.”  But our source said it finished on a potential note of harmony when a consensus was reached for conservative members of the GOP’s executive committee and committee moderates to work closer together and overcome some of their differences.  Earlier committee members debated resolutions — including one aimed at censuring Chairman Mann and another an attempt to remove the conservatives from the executive committee.  Both failed, according to party sources.
