Police chief ID’s reasons one becomes homeless

In front of the Seneca City Council, the police chief outlined why an individual becomes homeless locally.  Chief Casey Bowling last night announced that his department, along with Oconee Sheriff’s Office, is at work to identify resources to help the homeless.  Bowling gives four reasons for the problem locally:  Number one is culture.  Unfortunately, it’s a way of life for some who know no other way; addiction is a contributor and that, Bowling says, highlights the fact that South Carolina has too few rehabilitation centers; a third reason is mental illness, and the police chief chides the state for not enough resources to combat the condition; the fourth reason given, individuals who are simply down on their luck brought out by such events as the loss of a job or a divorce.
