Pickens solider was aboard ill-fated flight

Sixty years ago next month will mark anniversary number 60 of the date that a military flight vanished, with no trace of the plane or its passengers ever having been found.  One of those missing was an army officer from Pickens, SFC Ross C. Walker.  On Wednesday, March 16 at noon ET, Wreaths Across America will stream a live event to remember and commemorate the Flying Tiger Line Flight 739, a secret mission sanctioned by President Kennedy to fly to Vietnam.  Very little is known about what happened to the plane and its civilian crew of 11 and 93 US army soldiers.  According to Wreaths Across America, the names of those lost have yet to be added to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, but families still press to have their loved ones recognized.  The only monument that bears the names was put up by a private citizen in Columbia Falls, Maine, where the 60th anniversary commemoration is being held.
