PEDESTRIAN HIT AND KILLED NEAR SENECA

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said that a 79-year-old Seneca woman died at 12:29 pm in the emergency department at Prisma–Oconee Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle approximately one hour earlier. Her name will be released on Thursday following an autopsy.
This pedestrian collision occurred at approximately 11:35 am Wednesday morning in front of the Food Lion grocery store located at 191 Bilo Place near Seneca.  The vehicle fled the incident location but was located shortly thereafter.
The victim was walking from the store back toward her vehicle when she was struck.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating this incident and has charged 66-year-old Lori Lynn Smith with Felony DUI with Bodily Injury and Hit and Run Accident with Death. She is in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center and a bond hearing is scheduled for 3:00 pm Thursday afternoon, February 1.
