Pay bumps for West Union elected leaders
Pay increases for the mayor in West Union and the town’s four council members are now a vote away, after a first reading to an ordinance last evening at town hall. The public is welcome to comment or pose questions during an August 8 hearing. If finalized, these raises would send the mayor’s salary to $10 thousand a year and a council member’s pay to $2,500 a year. They’ll be effective following the town election in November. Mayor Linda Oliver commented that whoever occupies her seat after the election, she’s hopeful that the mayor will take a hands-on approach to the duties. Oliver says she’s at the town hall office each weekday and often converses with members of the public who drop by to pay a bill or ask a question.
