Pat’s Cash and Carry makes 50 years

In what’s likely to be the Salem area’s oldest commercial building, a celebration takes place Saturday to mark a business milestone.  Pat’s Cash and Carry at SC 130/Stamp Creek Road, and the Burnt Tanyard Road has reached 50 years in business – the business that’s run these days by the two granddaughters of the original operators.  We spoke there today with the granddaughters, Christi Dahl and Kayla Hamilton, about the 50th anniversary event this Saturday (October 14) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Old buildings have character, and this one certainly does.  Pat’s offers an extensive lunch menu and a number of foods to take home.  The building is from 1910.  Christi and Kayla’s grandparents, Christine and Perry Burgess, opened the business in 1973.  The history includes the late businessman, Doma Cantrell, owner of the building at one time.
