Outdoor rally for Benson Feed and Seed

About 75 people had gathered at the moment Walhalla businesswoman Karen Benson took to the mic to start a rally toward ensuring her independent business is not hampered or lost to a greenway.  She fears the long-talked-about project could cut off parts of her premises.  It’s an unusual situation for Benson Feed and Seed.  The building is owned by the family, but the property on which it sits is city-owned.  Benson proved not alone in her fight with city hall.  Several speakers are customers and they rely on the seed they buy to grow their own food.  Especially important, they say, during rising inflation and for locals concerned with food security.  They deplore Walhalla’s move to apply water department monies to the greenway, at a time when retail water rates have been increased.  Benson quoted a city hall worker as saying that, since the increase, 70 people had lost service.  More on this story is being aired today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.
