One person shot in Westminster, arrest made

One person wounded by gunfire in Westminster is in a Greenville hospital, condition unknown.  And the Westminster police have arrested a 19-year-old man on multiple charges, including attempted murder.  The city police identify the arrested man as Westminster resident Anton Joseph Bertich.  Here is the police department’s further account: “On the evening of 04/09/2024 at approximately 6:50 PM, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center received notification of a possible shooting incident within the city limits of Westminster.  Westminster PD units arrived on the scene at 1509 E. Main Street and discovered a single victim with injuries.  EMS personnel with Prisma Health EMS arrived on scene and assumed patient care and the victim was transported to Prisma Health – Greenville Memorial Hospital where they remain in an unknown condition at this time.  Westminster PD units were able to determine that the E. Main Street address was not the original incident location and were able to locate it on Lakeside Drive in Westminster city limits a short time later.  Units with Westminster Police Department, assisted by Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and Walhalla Police Department K-9 unit were able to apprehend the primary suspect, Anton Joseph (19) Bertich of Westminster without incident and he was transported to the Oconee County Detention Center where he remains today on the following charges:  attempted murder (2 counts); possession of a weapon during a violent crime (1 count); unlawful possession of firearm by person convicted of violent crime (1 count); malicious injury/damage to property (1 count); and discharging firearm in City limits (City Ordinance) (1 Count).  As of this time, Westminster PD believes this to be an isolated incident and there is not any immediate threat to the public”.
