One investigation completed; a second in progress

Greenville Sheriff’s Office has completed its part of the investigation into Nevan Hopkins’ fatal accident in Westminster, but the Oconee Sheriff’s Office internal investigation continues.  Sheriff Crenshaw issued this statement today to 101.7/WGOG NEWS:  “We are still gathering data but based on what we know at this time, the motorcycle sped past our deputy at a high rate of speed. Our deputy activated his emergency equipment in accordance with policy to attempt a traffic stop. The deputy lost sight of the motorcycle going over the hill in the area of the new magistrate office. Our supervisor instructed the deputy to cease trying to catch up since he had lost sight. Our deputy continued traveling toward the city and was flagged down by someone in the area of Domino’s Pizza and told of an accident near Hampton Street. He turned around and stopped. He and others began life saving measures until EMS arrived.”
