On a hill above SC 11 a political campaign was born
Forty years or so ago a Walhalla attorney and his wife joined friends for dinner. And after that meal Alex Macaulay was talked into running for the district state senate, a seat he won. In a 101.7/WGOG NEWS interview Macaulay, now a retired judge, says it was a pair of friends — Blake Griffith and Dr. Sam Moyle — who were highway 11 neighbors near West Union who planted the political bug in Macaulay. Back then the Senate seat covered four counties: Oconee, Anderson, Abbeville, and Pickens. Today that seat belongs to Thomas Alexander, who represents Oconee and part of Pickens County.
