Officers fired upon in northeast Georgia

A publicly unidentified suspect is in custody in Stephens County, Georgia after, what’s reported, 18 rounds of gunfire were unloaded at deputies as officers answered a suspicious person complaint in the vicinity of Valley Drive. Radio WNEG reported deputies faced a suspect carrying a semi-automatic rifle.  The suspect’s gunfire grazed one deputy sheriff and sprayed the windshield and driver’s side of deputies’ cruisers.   WNEG quoted Sheriff Randy Shirley as saying the suspect was tracked to a wooded area and captured.  Two clips from what appeared to have been an AR-15 rifle were recovered.
