Oconee’s Memorial Day ceremony

A state lawmaker with a penchant for history, Rep, Bill Whitmire, will be the featured speaker Monday when Oconee’s Memorial Day ceremony returns after an absence of two years due to COVID.  This year’s ceremony, at 12 noon, will take place indoors at the Center for the Performing Arts in Walhalla.  Oconee’s Veterans Council and audience members will pay tribute to the 210 Oconeeans killed in wars and conflicts that started with First World War all the way through Afghanistan.  There’ll be a wreath in front of the replica war memorial on the auditorium stage.  Afterward, the Walhalla DAR will offer refreshments.  Doors will open at 11 am on Memorial Day.
