Oconeean sues, alleges object of false accusation

An Oconee woman has filed a lawsuit alleging a false accusation by a deputy sheriff led to the loss of her job and damage to reputation.  Greenville lawyer Jake Erwin yesterday entered a suit on behalf of Mary Alline Holland.  It alleges that on August 28, 2022, Holland, a then employee of Wal-Mart, sat in her car in the store parking lot during her lunch break when she was approached by a deputy sheriff and accused her, and these are the words from the pleadings, “a 55 year old grandmother, of smoking marijuana.”  According to the lawsuit, the deputy’s body-worn camera was not activated.  Holland was charged with public disorderly conduct, assault and battery third degree, but all charges, according to the suit, were dismissed.
