Oconee secondaries to benefit from increased monies

South Carolina will send an additional $5.7 million to benefit Oconee County secondaries roads that are crying out for rehabilitations.  The announcement was made by Chairman Sam Dickson of Oconee’s State “C” Fund Committee during today’s committee meeting at the county administrative complex in Walhalla.  Dickson was quick to suggest one million dollars of the increased funding be applied to patching potholes.  Dickson’s colleagues—Tally Grant and Richard Cottingham—would like to see something more than pouring asphalt into the holes—possibly milling or what’s called full-depth patching in which paced sections immediately around the potholes are also re-surfaced.  Most of the $5.7 million in increased state monies for Oconee must be applied to secondary road projects.  Among potential road candidates are:  Poplar Springs, N. Horseshoe Bridge, Whetstone, Knox Road, and Bayshore Drive—though Chairman Dickson conceded $5.7 million in today’s pricing won’t cover all five.  The committee will look to the county’s DOT officials to decide which roads are re-paved and where to fix potholes.
