Oconee native honored posthumously

An Oconee native was one of seven recent additions to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame.  The late Cecil Dilworth was recognized for meritorious service to the state highway patrol for duty in multiple counties including Abbeville, McCormick, York, and Chester.  He retired in 1986 after 39 years with the patrol.  “Strong,” disciplined”, and “strict” are words that are remembered for how he comported himself.  Cecil Dilworth’s brother, Robert, was a Walhalla fire chief from 1961 to 1982.  In 1942, Cecil Dilworth volunteered for the army and saw service during the Second World War Battle of the Bulge.  He died in 2014 at the age of 94.
