Oconee inmate remains a man wanted in two states

Doyle Wayne Whisenhunt remains today in the Oconee jail, a man wanted by authorities in two states.  Whisenhunt faces multiple Oconee charges, including attempted murder, after the car he allegedly drove made an unauthorized entry and caused damage last week at Duke Energy’s Oconee Nuclear Station. Local authorities also say Whisenhunt is wanted in his home state of Arkansas on unrelated criminal charges. The question of which jurisdiction prosecutes first appears unsettled.  Oconee  Sheriff Mike Crenshaw told 101.7/WGOG NEWS this week, “Our plan is to not extradite him until he makes bond here.”  The defendant jailed in Walhalla is under a surety bond amount of $320,500.
