Oconee Humane Society sees growth during 2023

The numbers are in and 2023 was an awesome year for pets in need! The Oconee Humane Society reports that 1,284 pets were adopted from their shelter in 2023, specifically 954 cats and 332 dogs. Shelter staff says that while they are proud of the adoption and transport numbers, it’s their community outreach efforts that saw the biggest growth.

Serving Oconee residents with free vaccination and microchip clinics, low-cost spay/neuter for owned pets and community cats, and an amazing kitten foster program, has been a large focus of their new Pet Care Clinic.  They also saw their Pet Food Pantry triple in pounds of free food provided to residents and expansion continues as they now partner with Golden Corner Food Pantry to reach those in need in outlying county areas.
