Oconee grappling with a junk law, again

What to do about junk that litters Oconee is to be addressed late tomorrow afternoon during a committee meeting of the county council.  Matthew Durham, council chairman, is calling on Oconeeans with interest in a junkyard ordinance to attend tomorrow’s 4:30 pm meeting of the council’s Law Enforcement, Public Safety, Health, and Welfare Committee in council chambers at Walhalla.  The pertinent agenda item reads:  “Discuss commercial junkyard ordinance proposed by Planning Commission.” Chairman Durham made this comment: “For well over two years, the county planning commission has been developing a county junkyard ordinance. The ordinance is intended to regulate commercial junkyards, not individual property owners junk.  I’m requesting that you please review the proposed ordinance and provide me with your feedback. The ordinance will be on the agenda for the Law Enforcement, Public Health & Safety committee Tuesday afternoon. The committee has several options with the ordinance, the committee can send the ordinance as written to the full council for a vote (will require 3 readings), amend the ordinance and then send the amended version to the full council, send the ordinance back to the Planning Commission for more revisions, or dispose of the ordinance.”
