Oconee County may be nothing like Abingdon, Virginia, Tupelo, Mississippi, and Panama City, Florida.  But a 30-year consultant in the business of tourism says those places have smartly enhanced their tourism and, he says, Oconee can do the same surprisingly without of major effort.  This morning, a large meeting room full of Oconeeans got to meet and hear Charlotte-based tourism consultant Berkeley Young who, after having worked in Spartanburg, experienced a lot of Oconee County life, such as a job at the nuclear plant and a trip past Bull Sluice on the Wild and Scenic Chattooga.  Young presented his plan, “A Sustainable Tourism Economy for Oconee County’s Future.  Young offered tips on how county government and business community that caters to tourism can strategize without a lot of changes.
