Numbers made known for a new bus service year

A mid-day hearing on Seneca transit service produced new numbers on what it’ll take to operate a new year of free bus service in the city and surrounding areas.  But the riding public and general public apparently are just not interested, as no one showed up.  Yet it’s not too late to ask a question or make a comment about the bus service.  Written comments may be sent by contacting Barbara Dyar at 864/938-7837 or [email protected].  Ed Halbig, Seneca’s point man for bus service, gave dollar figures as to the estimated cost for a new year of service:  $805 thousand from the Federal Transit Administration; $158.5 thousand from the State Mass Transit Fund; and $218 thousand of Seneca money or in-kind.  Halbig also spoke about a transit conference that he attended in Atlanta and the pride for Seneca’s system which, due to a couple of factors, doesn’t face the kinds of challenges that other transit providers face.
