Nuke plant inspection finding remains unclassified

In 2021, the government watchdog agency NRC determined that Duke’s Oconee Nuclear Station ran safely, but one inspection finding from late last year has yet to be fully categorized.  This was announced yesterday during a Nuclear Regulatory Commission public meeting to go over safety performances for three Duke South Carolina nuclear plants, Oconee being one.  NRC uses color-coded findings and performance indicators that start with “white,” “yellow” and “red” based on the significance of the issues involved.  In a finding from the shutdown and re-fueling of Oconee reactor #1, NRC senior resident inspector Jared Nadel called what happened an “apparent violation” caused by error that resulted in reactor #2 losing power for 30 seconds.  Nadel promised those in yesterday’s meeting what happened during a November-December timeframe last year will be fully analyzed and updated in a report to be placed on his agency’s website.
