Nuclear re-licensing at “an important stage”

An officer of the country’s nuclear watchdog agency says Duke Energy’s application to renew Oconee Nuclear’s license has reached an important stage, and the NRC’s Dave Gasperson says the public is invited – and encouraged –to be part of tomorrow night’s meeting at the Clemson Madren Center.  It’s a public meeting for the draft of the site-specific environmental impact statement to new Oconee Nuclear for 20 additional years – which would be the second license renewal since the plant went into operation in the first half of the 1970s.  The formal part of tomorrow night’s meeting starts at 7 o’clock, but the public is welcome to show up as early as 6 o’clock to take advantage of any informal opportunities to converse with Nuclear Regulatory staff about the environmental impact statement of the proposed license renewal for Oconee Units 1,2, and 3.
