No zoning fit for Seneca housing project

A zoning fit could not be found for a proposed affordable workforce housing project, and the Seneca City Council voted in unanimous opposition last night to an RM-16 zone proposed for EN 1st Street property.  The council vote aligns the city’s elected leaders with their advisory planning commission, which had earlier recommended against an application from Mercy Housing Southeast of Atlanta.  Scott Moulder, city administrator, had temporarily kept an open mind to accommodating the project.  However, in his report to the city council last night, Moulder conceded he could not find a mutually acceptable alternative.  And, he said, a number of city council members had heard from constituents that they weren’t in favor of affordable workforce housing along EN 1st Street, Seneca’s entry way to the downtown from the east.  One of the council members, Denise Rozman, told 101.7/WGOG NEWS she doesn’t believe the location was the right spot, although she recognizes the need for affordable housing for workforce members.
