No shortage of candidates

Nine South Carolinians, including Democrats and Republicans, are competing next month for the available office of state superintendent of education.  The current state superintendent, Molly Spearman, is retiring.  In the Democratic primary, there are three hopefuls:  Lisa Ellis, Jerry Govan, and Dr. Gary L.  Burgess.  On the Republican side, there are six candidates:  Travis Bedson, Bryan Chapman, Kizzi Gibson, Lynda Leventis-Wells, Kathy Maness, and Ellen Weaver.  With so many running, some voters likely will have trouble figuring out which one to support.  But information about the half-dozen Republican hopefuls should be available Saturday, June 4 when the Oconee Republican Men and the Oconee Republican Women hold a Candidate Meet & Greet BBQ at Chau Ram Park.  All six have accepted invitations to appear.
