No criminal intent in counterfeit case

A lack of evidence and a conclusion of Oconee Sheriff’s Office that no criminal intent was involved mean that a person of interest is not liable for a counterfeit money incident October 14 at a Dollar General near Seneca.  The individual met with the case investigator.  Nevertheless, Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, issued the following statement:  “Even though the person of interest has been cleared in this investigation, counterfeit money was used to purchase items from this Dollar General location (Wells Highway).  The investigation does continue as the use of counterfeit money to purchase goods or services is criminal offense.  The Sheriff’s Office has taken eight reports this year, so far, in which counterfeit money has been used at businesses in our county.  If any citizen or business has questions or suspicions about possible counterfeit money, they are encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office and a deputy will respond.”
