New mixed-use development proposed in Clemson

Can Clemson’s main drag, College Avenue, accommodate another mixed-use development?  It’s question to weigh on the minds of the city council when a public hearing takes place next month on the Signet Uptown Planned Development.  The hearing will be 5 o’clock Monday evening, July 17 in council chambers at city hall.  According to the city’s description of the proposal, the Signet development would be for mixed-use for commercial and residential purposes on two acres near 408 and 412 College Avenue.  The project would include an 8,200 square foot commercial area; at least 4 workforce housing units meeting HUD qualified market rates; and up to 150 traditional apartment dwelling units.  Currently, the two acres are zoned CM Commercial Mixed-Use District.  If approved, the property will be rezoned Planned Development District.
