New level of security in Oconee schools

Addressing Oconee’s board of school trustees, Sheriff Crenshaw made clear there are no known current threats to the public schools, but he and one of his officers last night announced new security to further protect students, teachers and staff.  Eighteen biometric gun safes will be installed in school buildings across the district that’ll enable resource officers and other sheriff’s personnel to access a long rifle in the event of a shooter situation, accessing that weaponry within second by a fingerprint.  And seconds can mean the difference between life, death, or injury.  Each school resource officer is armed with a pistol gun, but a situation could call for a long gun. Crenshaw said a vote by the Sheriff’s Foundation approved the purchase of the long gun safes.
