New House speaker made an Oconee appearance

Louisiana’s 4th congressional district is hundreds of miles from Oconee County, but the man who became Speaker of the U-S House yesterday made an appearance 16 years ago before he started his political career.  On the night that Mike Johnson attended the February 6, 2007 meeting of the Oconee County Council he was a Louisiana attorney who represented what then was called the Alliance Defense Fund.  And his purpose for being in Oconee County back then, according to Wayne Morton of Seneca, centered on the possibility of the defense fund representing Oconee if the county were sued about its stance in favor of prayer in public meetings.
