New drug sweep underway

Twenty-six people are the targets of a new drug sweep by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office, the second such operation of the year.  The sweep started with a meeting yesterday morning at headquarters.  By 10 o’clock, ten of the 26 had been arrested or were already jailed and were to be served with new warrants. According to the sheriff’s office, the roundup targets individuals based on controlled buys by undercover operatives.  Among the narcotics identified:  cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, and prescription medication.
