Negligent lawsuit names Oconee and SCDOT

Oconee County and South Carolina DOT are the defendants in a lawsuit this week in the Common Pleas Court.  Oconee or the DOT, or both, are being blamed for conditions that led to a 2021 two-vehicle accident which the complaint says caused a violent collision that grievously hurt a passenger, Jimmie Lee Brown.  The accident was reported at highway 76 and secondary 109.  The suit alleges that a failure to cut back foliage from the right-of-way near the intersection inhibited motorists from observing a stop sign obscured by the growth.  Negligence is alleged on the part of the defendants and a jury trial is requested to settle the issue of actual damages.
