Near 50-year-old bridge has served its time

The state has decided that a 49-year-old Oconee County rural bridge has served its time.  So, it’s time to start a lengthy process that’ll see the dismantling of the s-106 (Clearmont Road) bridge over Colonel’s Fork Creek near Westminster and its eventual replacement.  About the condition of the old bridge, the DOT says, “The existing bridge is structurally deficient….”  The project will require a seven-mile detour for those traveling to both sides of the bridge. Tomorrow starts a one-month period in which members of the public can learn more about the project (and register comments and questions) by going to the following online address:  https://www.scdot.org/s-106-bridge-replacement/default.aspx. The DOT’s project manager is Trey Brown.
