National Security and Israel make calls to Oconee

Because of the importance of a nuclear plant to the electric grid, along with public safety considerations when it comes to nuclear, chances are a nuclear plant incident is going to generate concern from many places, not just local places.  Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw is aware of at least three calls of concern the day after a driver penetrated Oconee plant property.  Scott Krein, director of county Emergency Management, reported a call from Israel.  Crenshaw said he received calls from Pentagon Police and National Security, the latter interested in briefing the president as to what happened at the Oconee Nuclear Station.  It’s a rare occurrence of heightened concern involving the nuclear plant.  Crenshaw, when asked, recalls that just a day or two after 9-11 someone seen taking photographs of the three-reactor complex.  Nothing came of that incident, and it’s not illegal to take photos of the plant from outside plant property, as Crenshaw noted. However, because of the hijacked planes crashing into New York City, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon the photograph incident coming when it did unnerved some Oconeeans.
