Murder defendant makes court appearance

The case that alleges a young man killed a woman in Walhalla last summer remains in the pre-trial stage, although a judge yesterday ordered the city police to produce evidence, so that the defense can prepare its case.  In jail attire, the accused, Gilbert Nava, stood before the court and was silent as Judge Maddox ordered the investigation to comply with Rule 5 of court procedures.  Nava, a Seneca area resident, is charged in the August 8 murder of Cruz Cantero at Cantero’s Pitchford Street, Walhalla address.  Blair Stoudemire, assistant solicitor, told 101.7/WGOG NEWS that of the pending murder cases in Oconee County this one, is relatively recent and, as such, a trial date has not been established, although the hope of his office is that it’ll take place before the end of this year.
