Murder defendant extradited to Oconee

A 25-year old Philadelphia, PA man, who was
charged in late May of this year with Murder and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of
a Violent Crime, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center earlier this morning.
David Delgado, Jr., of Loretto Avenue, was transported from the Chesterfield (VA) County Jail
to Oconee County by Deputy’s from the Warrants Bureau. Delgado, Jr. was being held in jail in
Virginia due to local charges there and pending his extradition back to South Carolina.
Delgado, Jr., who was also charged with Use of a Vehicle without Permission, was denied bond
on all three charges filed by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. He remains in jail, in Oconee
County, at this time.
Delgado, Jr. was charged on May 30th of this year with the shooting death of 26 year old Ajhai
Yvonne Taraya Gambrell. The body of the victim was discovered, on the same day that
Delgado, Jr. was charged with her death, in the area of Porsche Lane and Wells Highway, which
is near Highway 123 and Seneca.
Delgado, Jr. and the victim were in a relationship and had been staying at a residence on S. Gate
Drive, which is the address of the homicide that occurred on May 29th.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
