Moving company scams as compiled by the BBB

Before hiring a moving company, the BBB — the Better Business Bureau — recommends careful research to avoid falling victim to a moving scam.  They run the gamut from missing items, massive price increases and, in some cases, goods being held hostage for additional payment.  Each year several versions of moving scams are reported to the BBB.  They include no shows, upcharges, extra fees, and stolen items.  BBB recommends consumers watch for warning signs, be wary of unusual requests and extra costs, get everything in writing, and keep an inventory of your belongings.
