More than $100K stolen from unsuspecting Oconeeans

A man and his wife in Oconee got a call from someone they thought to be from Amazon.  They then were put on a line with someone who purported to be from the U-S Marshal’s service.  In the end, according to the county sheriff’s office, the scam victim lost nearly $50 thousand in a Bitcoin machine, along with $81 thousand that was pilfered from a separate financial account and sent to a California address.  Master Deputy Jimmy Watt said, “Law enforcement will never recommend or request payment in any form, to correct a potential problem that may arise with financial accounts.”
