Meeting rules that apply to partisan politics

After comments by the chairman, the Oconee County attorney reminded the council meeting of an ordinance that covers partisan political comments during meetings. Attorney David Root was careful to say he was not suggesting that Council Chairman Matthew Durham violated the ordinance when Durham last night reacted after comments by Jim Mann from the public speaker lectern.  District One’s John Elliott asked David Root, the county attorney, if there were such a rule in place. Mann is a plaintiff in the lawsuit challenging the county’s $25 million bond issue, and he’s the husband of India Lancaster, who is contesting Durham to be the nominee this year for the District Two council seat.
