Margaret Harper decries the consequences of bullying

A 52-year Oconee resident implored the county school trustees to step up efforts to rid the public schools of bullying.  Margaret Harper held the trustees’ attention for ten minutes at the start of last night’s meeting declaring that the prevalence of bullying causes serious harm to children.  In her plea, Harper conceded that no one likely can stop bullying in schools altogether.  But what’s needed she said are a series of meetings about a problem, she says, is of such seriousness that the state’s governor should be included.  Harper also lamented what she believes is the lack of mentors in schools to which children may rely.
