Magnolia planted in Kaufman Square

Walhalla helped mark Arbor Day with the planting of a magnolia on the grounds of the city depot, and those who marked the event agree that the city’s progressive actions for more greenery are to be commended.  Mayor Edwards was one of those who dug the hole for a magnolia, the type of which is to reflect color during fall months. He thanked Duke Energy, the city’s tree committee, a local garden club, and others and announced that he the tree committee’s Francis Guldner are working to help qualify Walhalla as a tree city.  At that, Councilman Pace commended the mayor, saying that in Danny Edwards’ 10 years, he’s been instrumental in tree plantings.  Earlier, two oak trees were planted along Main Street.  Another tree committee member, Richard Harper, estimated that more than 80 trees have been planted during Edwards’ years, including two willow oak trees.
