Lawyers on both sides couldn’t hear each other

A civil hearing was called off yesterday in Walhalla just after it started when one lawyer could not hear the other.  In an online hookup, Larry Brandt of Walhalla and David Paavola of Columbia could not hear each other.  As a result, Paavola’s motion for a group of landowners near Lake Keowee for a jury trial in a case involving Oconee County will be re-scheduled for an in-person proceeding.  Judge Sprouse remarked that technology is a wonderful thing when it works.  But it failed yesterday afternoon.  The plaintiffs in the case live on Ellenburg Road as it leads to Lake Keowee, and they seek a jury trial to decide a dispute over who has paved and maintained the road since the 1980s.
