Jim Williams — the state’s top civilian award

A special moment during last night’s Christmas drop-in of the venerable Seneca law firm Derrick, Ritter, Williams & Morris.  Attorney and Little River community mainstay Jim Williams is retiring from a 50-year career.  And for his career, which included a couple of municipal court judgeships in Oconee, Williams received the state’s Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian award a governor may bestow.  It was presented last night by Seneca’s state lawmaker, Rep. Bill Sandifer.  As he received congratulations Williams, as usual, deported himself with the same humbleness true to those who’ve known him. He deflected the honor of a life’s achievement says, “It tells me I might have done a decent job of it.”
