Jail inmate files lawsuit

A man has filed a lawsuit against the Oconee Detention Center, claiming that while held there in late 2020, he was assaulted by officers.  He seeks $1 million in damages.  Nathan Ashley Neal filed the suit himself, without attorney representation.  His allegations are in a 7-page, handwritten document filed Friday in the Common Pleas Court.  Among multiple accusations, Neal claims his medical needs went unattended and he was denied a phone call after being booked.  Sheriff Crenshaw told 101.7/WGOG NEWS:  “I’m not aware of it (the lawsuit) and have not been served a copy.”
