Inmate’s death a homicide

The death of Oconee jail inmate Michael Calvin McMahan is a homicide.  This ruling by the coroner follows an autopsy revealing 24-year-old McMahan died from a blunt force injury consistent with being assaulted by someone.  “SLED” – the state police – are investigating.  Detention guards, while serving breakfast around 5:30 Saturday morning, found McMahan unresponsive in his cell.  Resuscitation efforts were made, but McMahan died about 45 minutes later.
