Identifying homeless help programs

Soup kitchens and Seneca’s homeless shelter notwithstanding, what is available locally to address Oconee’s increasing problem of homelessness?  The question reverberated last night during the Oconee Municipal Association meeting.  A website has been created to assist people in need:  oconeemyresourceguide.org.  Deputy Chief Mike Carroll of Prisma Health Oconee Memorial oversees                                                the resource.  As pointed out by Lt. Crompton of the sheriff’s office the program has helped several people before they become homeless.  Deputies and county dispatch are aware of this program.  Mayor Brian Ramey of Westminster last night commended the Oconee Sheriff’s Office for its approach to the homeless program.  Ramey, however, alerted the meeting audience to a division of attitudes in his city to homelessness.  He said there are Westminster people who wish to help individuals who wish to be helped; yet there are others who simply wish to be protected against those who are vagrants or homeless.
