Ian weather alert

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the entire South Carolina coast.  Hurricane watch in effect for areas below the mouth of the South Santee River. Storm warning also in effect, as the state climate office, reported yesterday afternoon’s forecast showed Ian making its second landfall in South Carolina.  Wind impacts begin today, as Duke Energy says, preparations for storms are designed at ensuring equipment, supplies, and inventories in all service areas are available.  If additional resources are needed, Duke can draw on other resources.  While the storm is forecast to be weaker after landfall, the potential remains for heavy rain and damaging wind that could bring significant power outages.  Work has been completed before Ian to strengthen the grid by trimming trees and upgrading wires and wood poles.  However, Duke urges its customers to have a plan in place to respond to the potential for extended outages.  South Carolina DOT says equipment in all counties is being prepared to remove trees and other debris from roads.  Real-time road condition reports are placed on the SCDOT Home Page to indicate open and closed roads and bridges.
