How the portable computers regulated by the county schools

Oconee School District’s first-year technology chief, Philip Price, gave the county trustees a perspective on how web content filtering is used to block websites that are inappropriate to the education process.  He told the school board that millions of attempts are made, but the filtering process that he and his staff follow is successful in denying entry.  Today Price told the district’s top administrators:  “That number is not specific to Chromebooks.  It is any device that touches our networks, meaning it could be a non-district assigned device.  The vast majority of those blocks are related to social media, which is completely blocked for students.  These apps will try to reach out constantly if the app is open on a phone or other device that is connected to our network creating the huge number of blocks in a given timeframe.  We filter all devices that connect to our network whether through a wireless or wired connection.”
